University Program Seniors on the field at Jets Business Day
On Tuesday, December 2nd, the Sports Marketing and the UPISB Business Decisions and Management classes took a field trip to Metlife Stadium for the New York Jets Business Day. Throughout the day, students went on a behind-the-scenes guided tour of Metlife Stadium which featured field access, exploration of various luxury suites, and a tour of the player’s locker room. When asked about the trip, UP Business Decisions and Management Teacher Ms. Mitchell said, “The trip was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect with Jets executives. The Q&A sessions were particularly insightful, providing students with a real-world perspective on various career paths.”
During each stop of the tour, students heard from various Jets Representatives regarding their roles within the organization and their process for getting into the sports business. For example, the Vice President of Finance spoke about how he, “started as a sales representative and worked his way up the chain of command to become a financial leader who organizes and analyzes costs from engaging fans to player contracts to team travel.” His speech prompted students from various high schools to collaborate and answer questions such as What is Profit? and How do the Jets make money? Senior Sebastion Holland said, “The best part of the trip was getting to people about their jobs within the Jets organizations. All of them had so much knowledge and insight into what they do as well, which was great to see.” Jets Business Day was definitely a memorable experience for students interested in business and sports careers.
Overall, the field trip was a great success because students had the opportunity to learn about careers in sports management and marketing while visualizing the sports world from a different perspective.
