After years of being a combined dance team with Ramapo, Indian Hills officially formed its own dance team and has since taken the stage. The team consists of five incredibly talented dancers from all grade levels: senior Eleonor Garcia, junior Jordyn Faivus, sophomores Bella Grossberg and Avery Ezmat, and freshman Alexa Eulas.
The Indian Hills Dance Team performed at a showcase at Rutgers University on January 10th and had their first competition on January 12th at Wayne Valley High School. The team placed second for small varsity jazz, third for small varsity pom, and received a technical excellence award. The girls also performed at Montclair State University on January 18th, where they earned 1st place in varsity pom, second place in varsity jazz, and the Best Showmanship award for Jazz. Most recently on January 26th at Hillsborough High School, they secured 1st place in varsity jazz, second place in varsity pom, and the Most Entertaining award for jazz.
Although the team is just starting, they have already crushed the competition. Freshman Alexa Eulas says she is “so excited for the rest of our first-ever season and [I] am especially looking forward to competing at states.”
Not only are the girls excited for the season, but the faculty who worked hard to make this team possible are equally enthusiastic. Mr. Duncan, the director of athletics expresses that he is “super pumped to be a fan and support the Indian Hills Dance Team! It took a little bit to get the team up and running, but they have certainly hit the ground running. We have two of the best coaches around, Coach Lauren and Coach Kailene! They have danced at top-tier college programs and for professional sports teams, and fully understand what is needed for a tremendous performance.”
The Indian Hills Dance Team has already found success as seen in their first few competitions, but they are just getting started. Mr. Duncan adds that “the girls on the team are top-notch athletes and some of the hardest workers I have ever come across. Their passion and love for dance is so apparent and watching them perform so well, week after week, is awesome!” Although the team is just starting, they have already crushed their competition and are ready for future performances.
