The Indian Hills community features many seniors committed to a wide range of leadership within extracurricular activities. On Friday, January 24th, Drumbeats sent an anonymous survey to students and faculty to nominate high-achieving seniors who have made an impact on the FLOW community. The first-ever senior spotlight students selected are Charlotte Manning and Andrew Jabaly. Both of these seniors have demonstrated their dedication to leadership within the local community, and are a source of inspiration for students within Indian Hills.
Charlotte Manning is known by students and faculty as “kind, intelligent, helpful, and diligent.” She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Inscape, the lead in the 2024 IHTC play John Lennon and Me, the co-president of Amnesty International, and a member of NHS, WLNHS, TNT, and Harmonic Outreach. When asked about her commitments, she said, “All of these activities can be overwhelming, but I really enjoy all of it!” Outside of school, she works as a lifeguard and enjoys dancing, writing, and volunteering. As a leader, she motivates and inspires others by “establishing a connection with others, then leading by example.” Her piece of advice to underclassmen is, “You should enjoy the ride, and not stress so much about the future. If there was one thing I could change about my first couple years of high school, I would want to have more fun and stress less. Also, join clubs that give you a creative outlet!” She believes that the best qualities of a leader are “compassion and honesty.” Manning also encourages upperclassmen to form strong relationships with underclassmen to set a positive example and inspire students to learn from them.
Andrew Jabaly is known by students and faculty as “enthusiastic, passionate, and dedicated.” He is involved in many extracurricular activities and is currently the leader of Academic Decathlon, Vice President of Science Club, Treasurer of National Honor Society, and runs the stock market club. Outside of school, he’s the Junior Youth President at his church, a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, a Venturer, and has been part of his camp staff for four years. An anonymous

responder to the form stated “He’s one of those people who seems to do it all, and he does it with genuine passion and dedication. If anyone deserves the Senior Spotlight, it’s Andrew.” Jabaly aims to inspire others as a leader by “motivating others by maintaining a positive demeanor.” Jabaly’s piece of advice to underclassmen is, “Do not over-extend your time. Don’t join too many clubs and extracurriculars. Pick one or two and put a good effort into them because it’s easy to over-commit yourself.” Jabaly admires leaders who are “versatile and adaptable” because it generally leads to greater success.
Manning and Jabaly have served as models for others during their time at Indian Hills. Their experiences and advice can motivate underclassmen and other students when choosing extracurricular activities and planning their goals for the future.
