As the Indian Hills family grows and evolves each year, welcoming new members is always celebrated! This year, the school has hired Ms. Hollm as the drawing teacher in room 124. The drawing curriculum covers a wide variety of project types and concepts, including depth perception, value scales, color variations, and landscape presentation.
Ms. Hollm has been teaching for about three years now, ranging from the elementary to the high school level. For an added bonus, she has spent time teaching art to senior citizens as well. To explain the well-founded origin of her career, Ms. Hollm began exploring craft at a young age, “[…] finger painting and getting creative whenever [she] could.” It was when Miss Holm reached high school that her art teacher inspired her to pursue art more seriously. Outside of creating traditional styles of art, Ms. Hollm shares that, “A fun fact about myself is that I love to bake bread!”
Ms. Hollm attended Montclair State University, where she received her degree in teaching art before coming to Indian Hills. When asked about why she specifically chose to teach drawing, she shared that “I wanted to teach drawing because I believe that drawing is the foundation for all other forms of art. If you can understand something enough to draw it, you can photograph it, sculpt it, or paint it.”
Before coming to Indian Hills, Ms. Hollm was drawn to the community aspect of the school, which is what led her to join the staff. Students in her class can find an open and supportive environment that offers room to grow into one’s capabilities. Ms. Hollm herself reports that, “My first month teaching at Indian Hills High School has been wonderful. It really feels like a family and I have been welcomed into the community by the students and the faculty.”
Looking forward, the Indian Hills student body is excited to get to know Miss Hollm and get involved in her class. She finishes off her introduction to the school with an optimistic attitude, expressing how she is “[…] looking forward to seeing the amazing work my students produce as well as participating in many of the school events.”
