As the weather begins to warm, Indian Hills students are shedding their winter coats and embracing the warmer temperatures with new styles. If you don’t know what to wear this spring, don’t worry. Here are the trending styles from Fashion Month that will be seen everywhere this spring.
The fashion forecast says blue skies are coming! Blue was seen all over the runways, including in looks from designers Bottega Veneta and Staud, and will soon be everywhere in stores. These tones will be worn in every garment and style this spring, ranging from a soft icy blue to a bright sky color. One can expect stark to soft whites as well. This classic color is coming back this spring, seen in sheer fabrics or traditional tones.
Keeping with the lighter colors of this spring is the color butter. The soft pale yellow is named for its similarity to the dairy product, but it also evokes a warm sunniness everyone is looking forward to as the temperature rises.
Additionally, the bright red that trended this winter has transitioned into a deep maroon or burgundy, a darker tone that will also be trending this spring. This color was seen in dramatic looks from designer brands Gucci, Valentino, and Sergio Hudson. With diverse aesthetics this season, one can expect to see many colors. Depending on the style, pinks, neutrals, and even black can be expected to trend as well. Let’s break down some of the aesthetics that will soon be or are expected to continue trending through the spring.
Although high school students aren’t heading to the office just yet, spring styles may encourage them to dress like it. Corporate core, also known as corp-core, corporate chic, business-core, and office siren, is a style that has gained popularity in recent months and is expected to continue trending through the springtime. This mature style takes reference from the office attire of the ‘90s with key garments including button-downs, pencil skirts, tailored suits, stockings, blazers, and trousers. One looking to emulate corporate chic can accessorize with ties and skinny glasses, whether or not you need them. Patterns associated with this aesthetic are stripes and plaid, and pleats and layering play an important role in this style as well. Corporate core doesn’t need to be all fancy, though. Dress it down with jeans, t-shirts, or cardigans while still looking like you are ready for the office.
Ever since Barbie came out last July, the fashion world has been obsessed with pink. The ‘coquette’ aesthetic has continued to trend throughout the fall and the winter, and, to no one’s surprise, it’s not gone yet. Looks from Simone Rocha, Carolina Herrera, and Moschino featured this aesthetic with garments featuring pink roses, romantic ruffles, rosettes, and lace. Sheer fabrics dominated the runways this fashion month including tulle, mesh, and chiffon, creating “delicate, diaphanous looks,” according to Vogue. Prada’s “Technical voile dress” gives a look into the stylization of sheer this spring. The dress is made of four layers of gazar, a lightweight silk, and voile, a translucent cotton, and comes in five colors, most notably pink. While pink continues to trend this spring, one can expect to see a more muted version of the color in addition to other pastels and lots of white. This style isn’t just for girls though, with men’s looks featuring rosettes, sheer, pinks, and other pastels as well, proving fashion is moving into a more gender-neutral direction.
As fashion editor Charlie Teather of Glamour Magazine pointed out, masc/fem dressing is becoming more popular. Designers such as Dsquared2, AMIRI, and Dior Men have created softer men’s looks that balance masculine and feminine styles and details, according to The Fashionisto, a popular men’s fashion website. Sheer dominated men’s runways for spring 2024, featured in collections from Hermès, Dolce & Gabbana, and Saint Laurent. Overall, the fashion industry’s embrace of romantic and delicate style elements, along with a more gender-neutral approach to fashion, promises an exciting and inclusive spring season.
Another style soon to be all the rage is the preppy aesthetic, especially featuring sporty motifs this spring. Originating from menswear of the 1900s, this style references “private university-preparatory schools attended by Ivy League aspirants,” says HELLO! Magazine. The style experienced a resurgence in the early 2000s and seems to be appearing again, especially on Miu Miu’s runway. Sportswear is a large part of this aesthetic, referencing sports including golf, polo, cricket, tennis, and rugby. To create a more dressed-up look, sporty garments have been paired with more tailored clothing, perfecting the aesthetic. Other key features include polo shirts, track jackets, button-downs, boat shoes, sweater vests, boxy jackets, Mary Janes, trousers, and loafers. Plaid, pleats, and pearls are not to be forgotten as well.
For a more minimalistic look, Indian Hills students can try out the simple yet elegant quiet luxury aesthetic. This style takes inspiration from the ‘80s and ‘90s but originated from the minimalist styles of the 2008 recession. This timeless look features loafers, trench coats, trousers, and plain simple tees. Its color palette includes beiges, soft creams, blacks, and fresh whites. Incorporating the quiet luxury aesthetic is an excellent way for Indian Hills students to achieve a classy and sophisticated look that will never go out of style.
As trends continue to go in and out of style, at Indian Hills, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and leggings will forever be in fashion. Junior Sebastian Holland expresses excitement about no longer wearing winter coats and sporting lighter sweatshirts instead. Junior Brady Dransfield echoed Holland’s statement saying he’s looking forward to wearing shorts this spring. Meanwhile, Junior Alexalynn Muro wants to try out the coquette aesthetic this spring. She listed baby tees, crop tops, skirts, shorts, and babydoll shirts as items she’s looking forward to wearing. Even history teacher Ms. Johnson is trying out a new style, expecting to wear more maxi dresses this spring.
This spring, Indian Hills students have a wide range of fashion styles to choose from. Whether one wants to embrace the corporate chic look or the preppy aesthetic or opt for a more minimalistic look with the quiet luxury style, there is something for everyone. And with gender-neutral fashion becoming more popular, everyone can feel included in the latest trends. It’s time to shed the winter coats and embrace spring fashion with confidence and style.
