Our very own New Jersey Devils are a big influence on the young ice hockey enjoyers. Their charity work programs are no doubt publicized in order to empower any and every youth hockey player. The Devils Youth Foundation set a goal in order to get players on the ice and work with them on their performance as well as create a safe family amongst the large community. This program in particular is dedicated to the leagues that aren’t granted as many opportunities because of the places that they live. According to devilsyouthfoundation.org, because of COVID-19 many urban and suburban kids had lost interest in a sport and have yet to find an accessible solution.
Playing a sport empowers the player in general, grants them a new society filled with those who have the same passion. Hockey is one of many inclusive sports programs that are collectively working to spread awareness to turn back to sports and to hockey because that is a healthy kind of passion for everyone. The Youth Foundation caterers to those in need not just for ice hockey’s sake but also for a community. Through partnership and the motive to empower others the foundation provides access to healthy meals for one out of three Newark youth who struggle with food shortages. NJ Devils Youth Hockey Development programs come in large with similar objectives such as having a safe and engaging environment for kids as well as access to skill enrichment for better performance.
Highlighting the girls hockey encouragement the “Jersey Girls Hockey Club” has just been funded recently by the Devils through the Youth Foundation. This new hockey league is just the first step towards the right direction of women as well as young women’s identity in a predominantly male sport. This hasn’t been the first time the NJ Devils have shined a little light on Youth Women’s hockey either! Posts on instagram of their own players wearing the “Bandit Girl’s” jersey as well as the Hitmen and other hockey teams housed in the Ice Vault in Wayne, NJ. These same jerseys can be found mounted on one of the walls in the Prudential Center along with old highschool jerseys that are represented. Our New Jersey Devils are definitely on the right track supporting our youth and giving women’s hockey the representation it’s earned.
