The Ramapo Indian Hills School District has had several short-term superintendents over the last few years. On May 29, 2024, the district announced Dr. Tarchichi will become the permanent superintendent of the district on July 1, 2024, following a unanimous vote of 9-0 in support of his employment on May 28. Dr. Quackenbush, Director of Curriculum, is the acting superintendent between May 29 and July 1. The employment contract was posted to the RIH website, making a path for at least five years of employment.
Dr. Tarchichi has several years of experience as a superintendent. He first served as superintendent at Woodlynne School District between 2013 and 2016. He then was superintendent of Pennsauken Public Schools between 2016 and 2024. Dr. Tarchichi has taught at many schools, both at the high school and collegiate level, including Rowan University. Additionally, Dr. Tarchichi’s academic record is extensive: Bachelor of Science (exercise physiology) from West Virginia University; Master of Education (physical education/exercise science) from The College of New Jersey; Master of Science (biology) from Rutgers University; Master of Biomedical Science from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now a part of Rowan University); Master of Education (educational leadership) from The College of New Jersey; and Doctorate (educational leadership) from Rowan University. Dr. Tarchichi has been involved in growing several technical schools, including Salem County Vocational Technical Schools, and is looking to grow the RIH Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways, according to an interview in the Daily Voice. The next RIH Board of Education meetings are Monday, June 24 (Indian Hills auditorium) and Monday, July 22 (Ramapo auditorium).
