In just four years, Samantha Goworek rose through the wrestling ranks to place fourth in the state at the New Jersey wrestling championships, held March 6–8 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Competing in a bracket of 13 top athletes, Goworek capped off her senior season with one of the best finishes in school history.
Goworek began wrestling as a freshman and finished that first season with only three wins. Since then, through hard work and determination, she’s risen to many impressive milestones.
This season wasn’t easy. Goworek faced multiple challenges, including a hurt collarbone, but she didn’t let that stop her. “I wanted to quit,” she admits, “but I pushed forward.” That perseverance led to an incredible accomplishment—one that ties her with Matt Shaban, a 2001 Indian Hills graduate, for the third-best wrestler in Indian Hills history.
As the first female wrestler in Indian Hills history, Goworek hopes to inspire others: “I hope I inspire other future Indian Hills girls to wrestle and strive to go above and beyond what I have accomplished. My message for anyone who was told they weren’t good enough or strong enough is that they can do it!”
