Fast food is one of the most common meals in the United States. Since the 1950’s, fast food has been on the rise. This effect has finally taken Oakland by storm with a new McDonald’s coming soon. While some may take this as nothing more than a simple extra food option, others may see it as a detriment.
Oakland already has a vast amount of fast food restaurants in the area, including, but not exclusive to Burger King, KFC, and even arguably Bubbakoo’s Burritos. The point being, there’s already more than enough food options in the area, so is one more going to cause problems? Another question to be asked is: will it get enough business? According to an IHHS student, “I don’t think it’ll do well. There was already a McDonalds in Wyckoff and it didn’t get enough people.” Since Wyckoff and Oakland are not far off from each other, the lack of business in Wyckoff can be seen as a sign for what’s to come if a McDonalds opens in Oakland.
The main difference between these two locations is that the new Oakland McDonalds is right next to the highway. This may result in people coming off the highway to get something to eat, creating a large amount of business. This may be a good thing for McDonald, but not the traffic in Oakland. It could make the area very congested and create large amounts of traffic.
Overall, the McDonalds may or may not be a good addition to Oakland. While there may be some consequences, other IHHS students are saying “I’m hype for it. It’s gonna be around when I can drive so I can buy nuggets.” McDonald’s has been a very long lasting franchise beloved by many, so maybe a little extra traffic in Oakland may not be a bad thing after all. Everybody likes a quick meal, and one more option in town may not be the worst thing for Oakland.
